In 1918, Mcvities opened its biscuit factory in the town.

Biscuits such as, digestives, penguins and jaffa cakes were manufactured at the factory.

In 1906, Crossley Bros LTD commenced its motor car production and by 1916 had supplied a large number of tenders to the Royal Flying Corps.

The production of Beardmore and Bentley Aero Engines began to be undertaken. The wartime expansion of production led to the acquisition of a premises on High Lane, Heaton Chapel which was later renamed ‘Crossley Road’ and marked the spot where Stockport became Manchester.
