Heaton Norris is an area of Stockport in Greater Manchester and forms a quarter of what is known as the four Heaton’s.

Weaving was first recorded in the area in 1580 and by 1776, farms were being advertised as having cowsheds and large loom-houses.

Despite the Industrial developments in the nearby town and city of Stockport and Manchester, the majority of Heaton Norris remained agricultural, although, by 1836 there were around 20 mills employing over 5,000 people.

The area became largely residential in 1840 after the arrival of the railway station, followed by the opening of a station in nearby Heaton Chapel in 1852.

Stockport County, formerly known as Heaton Norris Rovers, were formed in 1883 and used to play on a pitch on Green Lane, before they moved to their home at Edgeley Park in 1902.

The district lies on the North bank of the River Mersey.

William Nelstrop opened a flour mill on Lancashire Hill in 1820.  Nelstop’s Albion Flour Mills were rebuilt on the site following a fire in 1893.  The company is now one of the largest independent flour mills in Britain.
