Didsbury became a part of Manchester in 1904. The area existed as a small hamlet town, its history being dominated by being a part of the Manor of Withington. The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds was formed in the town in 1889. The towns name derives from the Anglo Saxon ‘Dyddi’s Burg’.
During the English civil war, Didsbury played a significant part in the movement of troops, due to it being one of the few places between Stretford and Stockport where the River Mersey Met.
To date, Didsbury is known for its many restaurants, bars, pubs, nightlife, cinema complex, hair and beauty salons, resulting in it being a popular destination for people of all ages.
