Cadishead is the furthest South-Westerly part of the City of Salford, Greater Manchester.
The area of Cadishead was first recorded in 1272, named then as ‘Cadewalesate’. Up until the beginning of the 19th century, Cadishead was part of the peat bog which is known as Chat Moss.
The opening of the Manchester shop canal in 1894 played a major part in the development of Cadishead.
The suburbs name ‘Cadishead’ derives from the Old English words Waella and set and ‘Cada’ a personal name, translating to ‘a dwelling or fold by the stream of man named Cada’.
